i feel like i'm going to throw up, ugh.
Ok, today sucks. I thought going to see adaptation would cheer me up a little, but I get there an hour early and the line has already wrapped around the building. Damn. It was pouring rain out too, so I figured not as many people would show up, otherwise I would've gone earlier. I guess I underestimated the film geeks here at NYU. Silly me.
Maybe things aren't getting better... I'm so confused... ugh...
Maybe animation class will get my mind off things.
Hmmm... so I'm finally writing in my journal after having not written in it for a long time.
I've been having some messed up dreams lately as a result of what I thought was a failing relationship with a friend... the last week has been really really really stressful, one more week of that and I'm pretty sure I would've developed an ulcer or some other stress related problem. Luckily, things are getting better and I think I'll live... being apart from people you care about really sucks, especially when you spend just about every other minute thinking about getting them. UGH.
I love it here, but I can't wait for winter break.
I missed the Leonid meteor shower, stupid city, stupid lights... oh well.
The past week was basically spent complaining to friends about my problems, thank you Steph and Emily. I have a tendency to worry about things too much. Luckily everybody I complained to put up with me. It was nice to let it all out.
My therapy also consisted of losing myself in the "Sopranos" universe. Meadow is nowhere near as hot as I used to think she was, but the show is still amazing. I think I was just stupid when I first saw her. Either I've changed or she has. I think it's a little bit of both. Other than that, it's incredibly well written, funny, clever, and it actually deals with important issues that exist in the current society. Whether you think that's an appropriate way to address the subjects is up to you. Sure it's not the most productive way to be spending your time, but it doesn't hurt to sit in front of the t.v. once in awhile and watching it the past week has helped me get my mind off other things. I finally finished the third season which was far better than the second and maybe a little better than the first. I got so excited about the fourth season that I started downloading episodes off of Kazaa. If I hadn't resorted to that I would have had to wait months and months until the stupid thing came out on DVD.
Speaking of television shows. I started watching some "Twin Peaks" too. I can't make up my mind which show is better, "Sopranos" or "Twin Peaks", but it annoys me that season two of "Twin Peaks" isn't out on DVD. Oh well. For anyone who hasn't seen the show go rent the videos now! It's only two seasons long so you can watch it in a couple weeks or a week if you really get into it and I don't see any reason why you wouldn't. Anybody with a good sense of humor and of a reasonable intelligence could appreciate the genius of the show, if they didn't I would really begin to wonder about them. Damn I want some cherry pie...
As a result of revisiting "Twin Peaks" I became interested in David Lynch and recently began the process of revisiting his old work. I saw "Blue Velvet" and don't know what to think of it. There were lots of great things in it, such as the opening sequence and Dennis Hopper's performance, but it was just so weird. I think I need to give it another viewing which I'll be doing since I decided to use the film as the topic for my final essay in my Art and the World writing class. I also saw "Pretty as a Picture" which was just an alright look into the mind of David Lynch. I think any of his films are a better look into his head since I think the only person who could really understand his twisted mind is himself, if even that. What the film did do for me though is make me really want to see "Eraserhead," I'll have to look for that next time I go to the videostore.
Hmm what else have I seen lately. I saw "Badlands" for my storytelling strategies class. I love that film and seeing it on the big screen was awesome. Everytime I see a Terrence Malick film on the big screen I come out feeling like that one has to be my favorite of the three, but then I think about it and I can't decide again. Now that I've seen "Thin Red Line," "Days of Heaven," and "Badlands" on the big screen I'm so happy. Seeing a movie in a theater is just so much better then on a television screen. Which reminds me, I'm going to see Bernardo Bertolucci's "The Conformist" on the big screen this Saturday! Yes, the movie I payed $35 for to get a crappy bootleg with crappy sound, video, and subtitles because I couldn't find the damn thing anywhere else except at Scarecrow video which only had it in dubbed fullscreen format with a $300 deposit. Well, now I get to see a restored version on the big screen!!! It's playing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, I'm incredibly excited. This is one of the most beautiful films ever shot and getting to see it projected in a theater will be like seeing "Apocalypse Now" or "2001: A Space Odyssey" at the Cinerama. The movie is just that gorgeous, even on a crappy video tape.
While on the topic of movies... this friday, NYU is screening Spike Jonze's new movie, "Adaptation," he's supposed to show up and so is the writer. That should be cool. In the past week I also saw "The Bicycle Thief" a product of the Italian neorealist movement. It's the first film by Vittorio DeSica that I've seen and I think I'll be checking out some of his other stuff. Pauline Kael loved a film of his called "Shoeshine" and I like her as a critic so I think that's the next work I'll check out... still need to check out some Bunuel (other then Un Chien Andalou), Godard, Truffaut, ugh I could go on... European films in general just feel so much more honest than their American counterparts, not counting American films during the 70s. I need a job at a videostore again so I can start getting free rentals.
I've had a strange urge lately to watch "McCabe and Mrs. Miller" again, but instead of doing that I rented "Gosfard Park" instead. Hopefully I'll find some time to watch it. I wish I could get my hands on a copy of "Sympathy for Mr. Vengence" also. So much to watch, so little time. I suppose I should try to do some other worthwhile things with my life too...
School is fun... In my animation class we did cell painting, an ancient technique no longer used in animation here in the states. They look really cool though and it's too bad they don't do it anymore. The finished products look really neat. I'm probably going to go do more just for fun this Friday and Saturday. I also really need to start my animation final project and I have a conwest essay due on Monday too. It's been windy here and it's colddddddd, no matter what you wear, the wind manages to sneak its way under your shirt all the time.
Going back home is going to be exciting and Colorado should be interesting. I'm very excited for both, and I'm even more excited that I can still say that about both trips. Less than a month until school gets out, but still a month and three days until i go home.
I think I'm done for now... who knows how long it will be until I write again, but that's it for now. Leave a message, let me know if anyone still reads this.

School is no fun now...
I'm SO stressed out...
My head hurts...
It's official, a group of Icelanders have overthrown the Brits. I woke up this morning and flipped past my pages of Radiohead CDs and put in a Sigur Ros Cd!
I went to see Beck a couple days ago. The Flaming Lips also played with him. They were alright. Beck was awesome. Great Great Show!
Today I went to the Sigur Ros show and it was the most amazing thing I've ever seen. There's been a coup and I think Sigur Ros might be my new favorite band. I sat there for an hour and a half mouth gaping in awe. It was incredible. Their new CD is great so go buy it and listen to it. Also, for everybody in Seattle reading this, obtain tickets to the Seattle concert!!! It was sooooooooo cool!
Alright... gotta go now...
