Okay, here comes my first

Okay, here comes my first real post in awhile. I got all caught up in the media frenzy that's surrounded J. Lo and Ben's latest flick Gigli. Who knows what it'll be like when Kevin Smith's Jersey Girl preps itself to hit theaters. It's going to be insane!

Yeah... anyway...

It's been really hot here lately! I think it's been in the upper 80s every day this week if I'm not mistaken and it's even hotter in my room! My room is crappy because the sun shines in it all day and even if I leave the window open air doesn't circulate well because the door is perpendicular to the window. You're probably asking "why don't you just use a/c?" well, I'll tell you. Almost nobody in the Seattle area uses a/c in their homes!

I have a fan running all day but it's still just awful. The rest of the house is hot too but my room is especially bad. Right now it's a little better because a breeze is actually starting to make its way into my room via the window that's been wide open all day but is only now making itself useful. The fan going at full blast directly to my left is a nice addition as well.

I haven't worked recently which isn't good because I only have $15... that's including everything in my checking account... Spending all that money on Radiohead tickets finally caught up with me but I'm not really in any hurry to get the money from people I got tickets to the New York shows for. That money will be put to better use once I'm back in New York. If I were to somehow get it now I'd just waste it all. I guess I better ask my dad for more hours...

Starting this Saturday my dad's best friend from Korea is coming to visit. Him and his family are staying at our house for TWO WEEKS! That's a long time. He has two sons (14 and 15 years old) and my brother and I basically have to hang out with them for those two weeks. The one good thing that comes out of this is that the guy is soon going to be one of the richest people in Korea apparently. My dad and him are close enough that getting funding for short films in the future will be a lot easier as long as if I can manage to not get the two kids killed while showing them a good time.

Originally they were supposed to show up today but the apartment their dad is building in Korea had some issues so they had to delay the flight a couple days. At least this frees up a couple more days for me.

I've been trying to write lately, hoping to at least get a rough short film written but I can't think of anything. My brain is a wasteland for creative ideas and it's incredibly frustrating. I've got a couple that are incredibly rough but I can't flesh them out to the point that I can start writing them out. I should just lock myself in a box and spend some time thinking... If anybody has an creative ideas please forward them to me.

In other news, the Lim/Sanchez (me and ) summer film doesn't look like it's going to be filmed (at least not this summer) but we do have a different project in the works. Filming will most likely on the night of August 4th and probably end in the first couple hours of the 5th. Watch for footage to appear on my website soon.

Oh yeah, in the live journal community NYU, I jokingly asked if anybody was living in Lafayette room 1607 because that's where I'm living. I already know everybody living there so I wasn't expecting much in terms of surprises but I did get one reply that went a little like this: "I've seen your room and it kicks some ass. I'm in Laf right now, and in the fall, and your room is better than mine. I'm gonna come visit. :-D" Hell yeah, this was by an anonymous poster but hopefully he or she is telling the truth and our room kicks ass. I mean, of course it's going to kick ass considering the people living there, but maybe it'll kick even more ass then previously thought...?

Why is my friend trying to persuade me to go see American Wedding with him... he should know me better then that...

Ian's () birthday is coming up soon! It's this Friday to be exact... if I remember correctly someone else had the same birthday... hmmm...

I'm stumped.

Well, that's all for now, I can't think of anything else to write. Wait, no I can.

Mogwai is playing at Irving Plaza on September 6th. They're such an awesome band. If you enjoy G!YBE (Godspeed! You Black Emperor for all of you not in the know... and shame on you if you're not) you'll most likely enjoy these guys too. They're very very good at what they do and that's rocking. Uh huh.

Okay, that last section was weird and made be sound like such a snob. Oh well, it's time to play some CounterStrike. Seeya.

Wow, this is incredibly cool.

Wow, this is incredibly cool. It's ping pong matrix style except there are no computers involved!

Since I've already started keeping

Since I've already started keeping people updated on Ben & Jen's latest I guess I'm obligated to keep the information coming...

Two more reports from IMDB:

J.Lo and Affleck: We Will Never Work Together Again

Superstar couple Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are so distraught at the critical backlash to their movie Gigli that they have vowed never to work together again. Sources close to the twosome - who met and fell in love on the set of the gangster comedy - say that although in public they have defended the flick, behind closed doors Latina lovely J.Lo is very upset at the bad press. And the sexy pair believe their incredible fame and the gossip surrounding their upcoming marriage doomed the movie to failure before it was released. A source says, "Ben's brushing it off but J.Lo's taking it personally. They've admitted their relationship is more of a hindrance than a boost to a movie." However, fans will get one more chance to see them sizzle on screen together in Kevin Smith's upcoming movie Jersey Girl, which will be released in February.

Worst Film Ever?

Sony Pictures and Revolution are hoping that the popular appeal of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez -- "Ben & Jen," as they have become known -- will offset a torrent of negative publicity and disastrous test screenings of their movie Gigli, which opens Friday. Today's (Wednesday) Los Angeles Times observed that the two companies "are now nervously awaiting the film's reviews, fearful critics will do battle to be the meanest." Several "unofficial" reviews have already appeared. FoxNews.com's Roger Friedman this week put the film at the top of his list of all-time bad movies. "Witless, coarse, and vulgar, Gigli is worse than its advance buzz could have indicated," he wrote. "The film -- if you can call it that -- is a total, mindless disaster." Today's New York Post quotes Good Morning America critic Joel Siegel as saying tersely following a screening Monday night, "I was shocked."

omg... R.E.M. is on Seasame Street right now singing "Furry Sobbing Monsters feeling sad" to the tune of "Shiny Happy People" ... this is so disturbing. Michael Stipe is jumping up and down dancing with the monsters...

Played hours upon hours of Bomberman today with and . Tons of fun, I haven't talked to them in person for the longest time so it was great seeing them again. We've come up with a way to take Hollywood by storm... let's just say it involves bombers, men, Ben Affleck, Russell Crowe, and Demi Moore. Damn right, I know you want to see it already.

We did some other stuff too but I'm too lazy to write about it and I'm sure nobody really cares anyway.

I made some Strawberry Lemonade when I got home. It had real strawberries in it too. Yum.

My room smells like tiger balm. It's not very pleasant.

IT'S TURKEY TIME!

From IMDB:

Critics have wasted no time in sharpening their pencils for Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's movie Gigli - with one branding it "the worst film ever". The film has been beset by problems: it even changed its name to Tough Love at one point and has removed J.Lo's character's lesbianism. And one scene in particular, when Lopez's character invites Affleck's character into bed with the line, "It's turkey time" only to reply to his question of "What?" with "Come on, gobble, gobble!" has been ridiculed by reviewers. One says, "It was possibly the worst line ever said in a movie." Another critic adds, "Affleck is just totally miscast and J-Lo is just awful." The film is released in America next week.

I MUST SEE THIS FILM! COULD IT BE A COINCIDENCE THAT IT COMES OUT ON MY BIRTHDAY!? NO! THIS FILM AND I ARE SOULMATES, end of story.

Werner Herzog's Invincible was pretty

Werner Herzog's Invincible was pretty good. It's not as great as Herzog's best work, but not much is. The film does possess some incredible scenes though and Tim Roth gives such an awesome performance. Possibly one of my favorites ever by any actor. He's sooooo great.

July 24, 2003

Not much to write about.

Not much to write about. Yesterday, I worked and played some Ping Pong and Golf.

Hahaha, I like to play Ping Pong, Golf, and Soccer, and I watch Golf, Soccer, and Cycling on TV. I'm so lame... or so most people would think! But the jokes on you! I think...

In other sports related news, I'm going to the Mariners game today with some buddies. We have crappy seats but it should be fun anyway. I think it's Gil Meche against Mark Mulder tonight if I'm not mistakin, it's going to be an awesome game to watch.

Yesterday I started watching Werner Herzog's Invincible but had to leave before I could finish it. My thoughts so far: the contrast between the strong man who's played by a non actor and Tim Roth's performance the "bad guy" really lends itself well to the film. The strong man displays an great naivete while Roth is just sinister as all hell. From what I've been watching lately, Herzog is shaping up to be a director with one of the most impressive filmographies that I've ever come across. The man's a genius. I want to give him a hug.

After returning the Happiness of the Katakuris which I will recommend one last time ---> rent it, I got Wim Wenders' film Wings of Desire. I'm very excited to see this and will probably do it tomorrow because I have a day off.

Time to go watch Invincible.

Today I worked for a

Today I worked for a brief period of time then came home and played ping pong with my friend.

Afterwards we watched Final Destination 2. What an awful film... so bad... but hilarious. It had some of the goriest death scenes that I've ever seen and those alone made the film worth watching regardless of how bad it was. If you don't have to pay for it and you have absolutely nothing else to do watch it.

As soon as the movie was over I tried to watch the Manchester United game that's being played here in Seattle tonight but for some reason it's not on TV! Apparently they're going to air it on a later date. For the time being I'm watching Le Tour de France again. Yipee.

Speaking of the tour de France, one of the announcers actually used the phrase "almost lost his manhood" when describing a close call that Lance Armstrong had. He had a British accent too, very funny stuff.

I've felt like I was about to sneeze for the last 3 minutes.

Neeru informed me today that she dreamt I was in her basement doing pilates. wtf?

Kumudha once dreamt that my mom baked her a chocolate cake. wtf?

She also finished her room and gets to sleep in there again after the paint job. Everybody congratulate her if you see her online.

People are starting to receive the postcards that I mailed out while I was in Korea. I still have some leftover ones if you want one (even though I'm back in the states) email me at Ben@mynameisben.com.

Oh yeah, I was told that I have girly handwriting. wtf?

Anyway, tomorrow I get to go to some Texaco training thing my dad is required to send his employees to and on Thursday I'm going to the Mariners game with my friends.

Oh yeah, yesterday I was cleaning my room and discovered that I had two copies of the book Encounters (the evil one with all the essays inside it). I think I stole someones book. Whoever it is: I'm sorry.

Okay, bye.

In other news... I've been

In other news... I've been playing lots of Ping Pong and I was watching the Tour de France today. It's so intense... whoever thought cycling could be so fun to watch?

Wow, 25 hours later I

Wow, 25 hours later I finally scored pit tickets to the October 10th Radiohead show!!!

Okay, here's how it all unfolded.

Ticketmaster is sold out of tickets to the Madison Square Garden shows so W.A.S.T.E. is the only place left to get them and they announced that tickets were going to go on sale sometime on the 21st. Starting at midnight London time (4pm here in Washington) I checked WASTE at the top of every hour. Eventually I received a tip that it wouldn't until much later so I rested easy until 10pm.

From 10pm to 3am I checked WASTE over and over and over again. As did 25,000 other people. This caused WASTE to overload and at 3am they announced tickets would go on sale sometime after 10am the next day.

I wake up at 9:55am and get online and spend the next three hours checking WASTE over and over and over again. Suddenly they announce "TICKETS TO GO ON SALE ON THE 22nd"

Okay, now this is just too much...

I wait around 4 hours until it's 4pm here and midnight there and I get online. Once again I'm checking over and over and over again.

Around 5pm is when the magic happened. Apparently they were only letting a handful of people in at a time. They post the link for about 5 seconds then take it down and they did that about twice every hour. I managed to get in on the second wave. When I got in I filled everything out and then selected the number of tickets. Upon doing that I was booted out!

I freaked. As did hundreds of other people on the many message boards and in the chat rooms I visited. Lots of people faced the same problem and many people didn't get their tickets. Lots of tickets were being held, but no one could get access to screen to pay for them.

That's when I found an old link "http://bigtickets.waste.uk.com/ViewBasket.html" the website lacked any button to view your basket so I type it in by hand on the third wave and my tickets were there! I freaked and proceeded to pay for them. Numerous other people also got their tickets when I sent them this link and it made me feel good helping other people out, even if it was just concert tickets... it's not like I was feeding homeless people or saving lives... well maybe I was saving lives... Radiohead fans are insane like that...

Anyway, I have pit tickets to Madison Square Garden and am very very happy although this was WAY too stressful and long of an ordeal...

So sleepy... I have my

So sleepy... I have my alarm set for 12:55am right now so I can get up at 1 and check for Radiohead tickets... they go on sale at the top of the hour, they just haven't released what hour...

I think the morning might be spent taking one hour naps waking up 5 minutes before the hour each time...

I really hope they go on sale at one so I can get this over with...

July 19, 2003

I saw Pirates of the

I saw Pirates of the Carribean today. It's the product of what Hollywood's good at, big budget over blown action films. I enjoyed it a lot, it was just so over the top and Johnny Depp and Geoffery Rush (sp?) were so awesome. Fun stuff.

Okay, I'm really tired...

Wow... I underestimated NYC Radiohead

Wow... I underestimated NYC Radiohead fans... both Madison Square Garden dates in October are sold out on ticketmaster and the only seats left are the ones that go on sale on Monday on W.A.S.T.E. at a random time of the day. They don't announce the time to cut down on scalpers... whatever... if I get screwed out of tickets heads will roll...

In other news, I watched The Happiness of the Katakuris (I misspelled it yesterday). HILARIOUS! It's a Japanese musical about a family that runs a guesthouse where the guests keep dying. Takeshi Miike is quite the interesting director...

I've been waking up really early the past couple days. I've yet to sleep past 8am and I've also yet to go to sleep before 2am. Yesterday I slept from 3am to 8am, the day before I slept from 4am to 5am, and it just keeps getting worse! Why can't I sleep for extended periods of time!!! For some reason I'm not tired either although I know I'm going to conk out at some random time later today.

I'm a bit stuck as to what I should do with my website right now. I don't have anything to put on it for the time being and it would be nice to put something on it that's constantly updating so that people will have a reason to come back. I'm thinking of starting a comic strip but I don't think I'm clever enough and anything I do attempt will probably turn into a ripoff of Achewood...

If anybody has any ideas of what they'd like to see on the website please let me know!

In other website news: I got my 1,000th visitor yesterday! It took 2 months and 13 days.

Yesterday night on MTV2 they showed the Radiohead $2 bill show which I caught the tail end of and then immediately followed it (while cutting off "True Love Waits") with Linkin Park. Basically Radiohead opened for Linkin Park!

Um I don't know what else to write about. I'm supposed to meet someone online in 12 minutes to play some TetriNet, woohoo.

Oh yeah! I played Bomberman online yesterday too using a Super Nintendo Emulator. That game is so much fun and if you've never played it with a group of friends before, you haven't lived. I think I'll buy it for GameCube and take it to school...

I have a couple pages left in Dandelion Wine, I think I'll go finish that later today. It'll make me feel productive.

I just went to the book store to get some books about the boardgame Go, but I could only find one and it wasn't very good.

Instead, I purchased two books by James Baldwin: Go Tell It On the Mountain and The Devil Finds Work

When I got home I checked my mail and the DVDs I had ordered via NetFlix had arrived. I rented Millers Crossing, The Happiness of the Katakarus, and Invincible

I will update later tonight.

Ok, seriously... wtf... the best

Ok, seriously... wtf... the best seat I can find for even one person is 333 (Keep in mind the sections start at 1, not 100 like other places). That's insane...

Either W.A.S.T.E. is hogging tickets with extreme prejudice or I seriously underestimated the power of rabid Radiohead fans...

... as soon as it

...

as soon as it turned 6am ticketmaster decided to freak out and give me an error message for the next five minutes. Now I want find a single pair of seats that are next to eachother in the entire arena...

but, all hope is not lost. No one seems to have gotten floor seats, even on the radiohead message boards meaning that W.A.S.T.E. must have hogged them all for the monday sale. I will be there...

5:47am Attempt two to get

5:47am

Attempt two to get tickets to the Radiohead concert on October 10th.

I tried to stay up all night but it didn't work.

I watched Werner Herzog's Fitzcarraldo which was great. I enjoyed it a lot and am excited about the Herzog's Invincible which is arriving via NetFlix today. I also started watching My Best Fiend, but my plan was foiled when I fell asleep... oh well...

I had a dream I was at Lafayette and had moved in. Some of the adventures I went through was trying to climb an escalator (called an elevator in the dream) that was impossible to climb and losing my cell phone in the process. Upon finding my phone, which managed to make its way up while I could not, I discovered a staircase...

I also walked past Audrey Horne (from Twin Peaks). I'm only know realizing in my awaken state that I walked past her twice yet didn't think anything of it in the dream... she flashed me one of those devious smiles and I just was like wo. Um... I mean... like whoa...

I also couldn't find the room! I couldn't remember the number! Silly me...

Anyway, 8 more minutes. I will update in about 15 minutes! Peace.

WHOA! Finally! Terrence Malick (the greatest director on the face of the earth besides David Lynch) is set to direct his fourth film in like 30 years. His other three films: Badlands, Days of Heaven, and The Thin Red Line are three of the most incredible films ever and hopefully this one will be up to par.

The topic is quite interesting: Che Guevera! Whoa! Terrence Malick and Che Guevera! Interesting indeed.

Benecio Del Toro is set to play the title role.

Yes! Terrence Malick is the man and I will be first in line for this film when it finally comes out.

I'm here at the PC

I'm here at the PC place inside the mall where the theater I'm watching the film festival movies today is located. I'm in between movies right now so I'm going to write about the first three I saw today.

1. Deathwatch - Okay World War I horror flick. Something scary is hunting down the british in the trenches and it ain't the Germans! AGH! Billy Elliot is in it and it has a couple good moments in it, but it's mostly cliche after cliche.

2. Save the Green Planet - Korean sci-fi/comedy/action/suspense masterpiece with heavy doses of social commentary mixed in. This film had the deaf guy from Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance in another great roll along with some other great actors. Really really sad film, but one of the best Korean films I've ever seen along with Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Oasis. This one will definitely shown by moi next year at NYU!

3. Reversal of Fortune - Korean romantic golf comedy, um... I hate to say it but I kinda enjoyed it... not a good film by any means, but entertaining...

One more to go today and three more tomorrow. I'm really hungry but I think I'll make it.

I'll be back in the U.S. on Tuesday!

July 12, 2003

I'm here in Pucheon on

I'm here in Pucheon on Day three of the PiFan film festival.

Yesterday I watched five movies and today I saw three. Yesterday I saw a short film by a Canadian director named Guy Maddin called The Heart of the World. It was a mixture of German expressionism and Soviet montage and was one of the coolest things that I've seen in a very long time. It was originally comissioned for the Toronto Film Festival and was being screened here as part of a series of films by Maddin.

The second film I saw was Dracula: Pages From a Virgin's Diary, once again this was a mixture of expressionism and montage with a dose of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet thrown in. This was also a Guy Maddin film and was also very entertaining. In this screening Godfrey Reggio, director of the Qatsi trilogy, was sitting right in front of me.

Reggio's films are also being screened here and over the last three days I've seen all of those too. Koyanisqatsi, Powwaqatsi, and Naqoyqatsi are all film that involve no plot or dialogue and instead are just a series of images coupled with an incredible score by Philip Glass. The films are great and Reggio was there to do a Q&A after each one. During the screening of the last one he was actually sitting a couple seats to my left, with only one person (who kept falling asleep) in between us.

Another film I saw was called Hollywood North and was also very entertaining.

I also saw two more Guy Maddin film: Twilight of the Ice Nymphs and Careful. While they were interesting visually, they got old fast. Whoever thought watching movies could be so tiring... I'm exhausted. Four more tomorrow...

July 10, 2003

After a very awkward walk

After a very awkward walk down a red carpet (it was apparantly the only way in) I saw Wonderful Days at the opening ceremony of the Pucheon film festival. The red carpet was weird, it was the same one that all the famous korean celebrities had walked down and people were clapping as we walked down, but the cameramen knew better. Everytime normal citizens like us walked down you could see a wave of cameras being brought down and the cameramen resting, but we did fool some other people. Anyway, red carpets = evil. No fun, ultra embarassing.

Now the movie.

The movie for me was a huge disappointment, but before I get to that let me first mention the horrendous conditions under which the film was screened. First, they opened up the curtains really wide even though the film itself isn't that wide. A minor detail, but very annoying nonetheless. Secondly, the air conditioning was turned on, very loudly. Also very annoying. Third, the light turned on part way into the film and turned off again and the lights in the projection booth were left on throughout the screening! Awful stuff, but it wouldn't have made the film any better had none of this occured.

I have to admit that I fell asleep part way into the film for about 10 or 15 minutes so I can't fairly comment on the story although from what my brother tells me it was pretty good. As for the animation I was incredibly disappointed. The characters hardly seem to move at all and when they do it looks awkward and not smooth at all. The only things in the film that do a lot of moving are the computer animated objects. Anything hand drawn is about as animated as Pikachu... well, it's not that bad, but it might as well have been.

The mouths are also synched to the dialogue terribly, evoking some chuckles the first time characters talked. The voices are all right and the acting is good too, but the damn characters need to do some moving! Throughout the film I kept on thinking about the part in Ghost in The Shell when she's invisible and kicking that guys ass but alas nothing in this film approaches the genius of that scene.

Coming into this film my brother and I were expecting to see some of the most incredible animation ever because the ads we had been seeing here looked amazing. Oh well...

Other things about the film that annoyed me:

The music was annoying.

The ending did its best to let people know this was a Korean film by turning melodramatic and sappy.

A lot of the above was sent to Aintitcoolnews.com, hopefully they're going to print it. Sweet.

Okay, I'm thinking I might

Okay, I'm thinking I might just see Radiohead once during the two days they play at Madison Square Garden because I just got tickets to see them and Sigur Ros perform at the Brooklyn Academy of Music with Merce Cunningham!!! !!! !!! !!! !!! Could October rock any more? Nope.

July 8, 2003

This morning was awesome because

This morning was awesome because I found out about the Radiohead concert in NY. Wow, seeing them three times in two months! That rocks.

Last night I had a dream I went to a Radiohead concert and Thom Yorke looked at me and sneered while singing the lyrics "We hope that you choke" or "we can wipe you out anytime." I forget which one it was, but it was really mean!

The official count for the number of movies I'm seeing at the film festival is 16 in 5 days. One the first day and 15 spread out over the next 4. The opening film is a Korean animation called "Wonderful Days" and looks incredible. It's going to be worth it for the visuals alone. I'm going to try to write reviews for the stuff I watch and email them to AinItCoolNews.com in the hopes that they'll publish them since they usually do for film festivals.

The Blur album "Think Tank" is quite enjoyable.

I'm hoping to buy some Korean DVDs within the next couple days so I can take them back to the U.S. I'll probably have to get a region free DVD player to take to NY with me...

The End.

I haven't posted in awhile

I haven't posted in awhile because I was on Jeju island which is pretty much Korea's Hawaii. I was there for three nights and four days and the weather wasn't that great but it was still really beautiful there.

My uncle is totally baller. He got us a really nice hotel room at a hotel that his friend who was formerly in the mafia now manages. The room was super nice including having three tvs in it and a view of an island, the ocean, and two mountains. The guy also took us out to really expensive meals and I ate more raw fish then I care to think about. A lot of money was wasted and I was semi disgusted by my uncle's friend who was too rich for his own good but I tried to enjoy myself...

There was also an episode involving dogs that I decided to skip out on, although I didn't escape unscathed (psychologically)...

While on the island we went to a shooting range and I got to fire a Baretta and a Sig assault rifle (the kind in counterstrike). Guns are scary as hell... they even had Uzis you could fire but I opted not to. We got to shoot them at the target range where my mom actually did the best. By far...

Korea's a really nice country but it's definitely not without its bad sides. Everywhere we go my brother and I can't help but draw comparisons to 1984. Today when my uncle bought a meal on his credit card a message was sent to his cell phone telling him what he had bought, there's military presence all over the country, there are korean flags hanging on the lamp posts along all the major streets in the city, and government positions have names such as 'minister of culture' and 'minister of environment.' Freaky stuff!

People here are really rude and racist too and with that and the previous paragraph I've managed to make a country that's not actually that bad seem like the worst place in the world to live. Bravo to me. Well, it is pretty disheartening traveling around the country because it seems like such a waste of so many things. Ew.

I'm supposed to go bungee jumping sometime soon, hopefully it'll all work out and I'll footage of it on my website within the next couple weeks. The Pucheon International Film Festival starts next week and that's where I'll be spending most of the last five days of my trip and then I'll be back home.

Thing I'm looking forward to:

July 15th - Going home.
August 1st - MY BIRTHDAY
August 31st - Radiohead concert!!!
September 1st - Fly to NY and move in!
