It's quite relaxing being back

It's quite relaxing being back at home. I've pretty much spent my time sleeping and eating and it's great.

I've watched three movies so far, Osama, White Chicks, and Kill Bill vol. 2... quite the array of films if I do say so myself...

Osama - pretty good.
White Chicks - awful but I have to admit I did laugh at times............
Kill Bill vol. 2 - Eh... I slept through a lot of it because it was after eating leftovers... It has its moments and Tarantino displays his writing skizzilz but I'll probably never watch it again.

Not much else to say, I'm being told to go look someone up on Facebook so I have to end this entry now. Later.

Yesterday while getting gyro, Mos

Yesterday while getting gyro, Mos Def got in line behind us with his girl. We stood in line next to him for about 15 minutes. It was pretty cool. He's short but hot.

Class and work today... Tuesdays

Class and work today...

Tuesdays through Thursdays suck...

Today at work I found out that, with my employee ID, I can get into most of the art museums in New York city for free. I guess working for a big scary corporation isn't all bad... at least not when they have lots of money they donate to cultural institutions...

Anyway, the new MOMA opens in Manhattan on the 20th so I will definitely be going there somtime soon since it's been under construction since I started school here and the one time that I went to the Queens one I couldn't get in.

I think I'm going to Rye tomorrow and I'm flying home next Wednesday for Thanksgiving.

Food. Water. iPod.

I've joined the legion of New Yorkers who walk around with that ubiqiutous white wire running out of their pocket and into their ears, walking around bobbing their heads, and grinning.

Yes, I finally got an iPod. It even has my name and e-mail address engraved on the back. Woo! I've already pretty much filled it up (it's a 20gb) and am now erasing some stuff I'll probably never listen to while replacing the stuff I listen to often with version encoded at a higher bitrate (256kbps). It's fun walking around and listening to music while looking at people. It's quite strange just how much different types of music can make seemingly ordinary events and actions seem really sad, happy, or angry. Being a film student, the idea is nothing new but it's fun to actually experience it in the real world.

I mostly walk around listening to The Arcade Fire who are just simply amazing. Just like I like I jumped on the iPod bandwagon I'm also jumping on The Arcade Fire bandwagon with no reservations. They're awesome.

Work is going pretty well so far. My days there seems to go by really really fast. My boss is really cool and the dining hall food is quite delicious.

I spilled apple juice on my computer freshmen year and since then my touchpad on my laptop didn't work. This morning, I woke up and found that it was working. It had magically fixed itself. I don't know what happened but it's kind of creeping me out while also being very cool.

I just registered for classes. Here is my schedule for next semester.

Mondays-
Color Sync - 9:30 - 4:45pm

Tuesdays-
20th Century Korean Literature in Translation - 2:00 - 3:15pm
Arts in China 3:30 - 4:45pm

Wednesday - No class

Thursday -
Camera II - 9:30 - 1:45pm
20th Century Korean Literature in Translation - 2:00 - 3:15pm
Arts in China 3:30 - 4:45pm

Friday - No class

I'm on the waiting list for History on Photography but there are 21 people ahead of me. If I do somehow get in, I will be dropping the Chinese art class.

My schedule is weird and Mondays and Thursdays are going to suck but I think it'll be good to have two full days off so that I can work on those days. My boss at Pfizer said that he'd like to keep me onboard next year and that he just needs to approve it with his bosses. If I could keep this job for longer than just through the end of this year that would be great. It's fun, not difficult, and pays well. Plus, I get free bottled water!

Right on cue thirteen ugly children roll gutterballs...

"To take photographs means to recognize - simultaneously and within a fraction of a second - both the fact itself and the rigorous organization of visually perceived forms that give it meaning. It is putting one's head, one's eye and one's heart on the same axis."

Yesterday I got a book full of photographs by Henri Cartier-Bresson and a book of essays about photography by him as well. I haven't read the essays yet but his photographs are amazing. He didn't setup photographs and instead opted to seek out "the decisive moment" and snap a photograph really quickly. Knowng that, it's amazing how immaculate his compositions are. His work gives me a funny feeling in my stomach that few other works of art, including my favorite films, give me.

This is one of my favorite photos of his:

Madrid, 1933

You can find more of his photos here...
and here...

Leonard and I rearranged our room today. It was pretty insane.

"One shot..."

My winter time fling with Pfizer began today on what turned out to be a rainy November day.

I showed up for work about twenty minutes early (which is rather late by my standards since I seem to always arrive really really early to things) and was introduced to some other employees and the other intern I'm working with. He's a a fine arts major in CAS and a junior as well.

Work was fun, it went by very quickly and I found walking around and looking at art to be quite enjoyable. Big surprise.

I felt like a tool being all dressed up and even having to tuck my shirt in but I'll live.

I'm thinking that I'll buy a unlimited metrocard. I figured that each trip to and from work is going to cost me $4 and I'm working three days a week so that's $12 for my pfizer job. My other internship with Greg Pak is also costing me $4 a week for transportation. That's $16 a week. ($16 / week) x (4 weeks / month) is $64 / month. If I factor in a couple gyro runs per month plus the more frequent use of the subway due to the fact that I'll have an unlimited card it comes out to a pretty good deal considering that an unlimited metrocard is $70. I'm going to do that as soon as my current card, which I unfortunately refilled today, runs out...

Time to go out and brave the crappy weather again. Farewell.

*edit* I have no idea what the relevence of my subject line is except that watching the elections gave me the same feeling the russian roullete scene at the end of The Deer Hunter gave me. Along with the same awful feeling when it was all over...
