FINALLLLLLLY
I've nearly hit level 42 for those of you keeping track.
Yesterday, I watched "3-Iron" again and enjoyed it just as much the second time around. I was planning on doing something else while James, Kate, and Kate's friend Tim watched it but then i got sucked in. Oh well.
After not having purchased a DVD for a very very very long time, I got the criterion edition DVDs of "Hoop Dreams" and "Burden of Dreams."
One of the special features on "Burden of Dreams" is the documentary "Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe." The short documentary is the result of a bet that Werner Herzog lost. He had bet Errol Morris that Morris would never complete a feature film or that he'd eat his shoe. Morris went out and made "Gates of Heaven" and Herzog ate his shoe. The documentary is quite funny but manage to be more than just that. "Burden of Dreams" is Les Blank's film about the making of "Fitzcaraldo," I'm going to rewatch Fitzcaraldo before I watch it.
Godard's "A Woman is a Woman" was more playful than anything else. The film incorprated lots of clever uses of cinematic techniques and had a very strong sense of self consciousness throughout. It's an earlier Godard film and while enjoyable it didn't impress me to the degree that so many of his other works have.
Anyway, back to yesterday.
For some reason James, Kate, Leonard, Tim, and I decided to go to Grimaldi's, a pizza place right across the bridge in Brooklyn. Typically, this wouldn't be that big of a deal. The pizza is brilliant and well worth the short walk across the bridge. Unfortunately, it was raining yesterday and we walked there with no umbrellas or jackets and arrived soaked. It was one of the stupidest things I've done since living here but also very rewarding because Grimaldi's was especially on top of their game yesterday and might have produced the finest pizza I've ever eaten.
That just made me really hungry.
I'm finally settled in my new apartment. Vadim has gone home for the weekend so I have the place all to myself for a couple days. I would take advantage of that but I don't know how to go about doing that beyond walking around the apartment naked.
Moving in was a real pain in the ass. We rented a truck in Connecticut and went to the Ikea there and bought a lot of matching furniture. Vadim and I both have the same bed and desks. It's awfully cute. After loading tons of Ikea furniture into a truck we drove into the city with his dad. Very slowly. We were heading into the city during rush hour in what probably looked like a clown car. The only truck with three seats at U-Haul was a tony little Toyota pickup truck that could barely exceed speeds of 55 miles per hour. Downhill!
Okay, that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but only a little bit.
Once in Manhattan, we had to stop at our dorms to pick up all our crap. We eventually arrived at the apartment around 9pm after starting the day at 7am. Luckily, James showed up to help move stuff in and we were done by about 11:30. It was a long long day.
The following day was spent putting together furniture as the cardboard boxes and wooden parts sucked all the moisture out of our poor hands. It felt weird to touch anything for the next couple days.
That was all over a week ago.
The past week was spent with my mom eating lots of Korean food and visiting all the restaurants I love to eat at but can't visit too often for financial reasons. In between meals we shopped for household goods that I need but would never go out of my way to purchase myself (my most cherished purchase being a waffle maker).
On Thursday night we watched "The Phantom of the Opera" which was painfully cheesy but still enjoyable. Afterwards, we saw Nancy Reagen outside leaving "Spamalot" and I watched in amazement as people screamed her name and cheered. I must've missed something...
Hank Azaria and Tim Curry who were hanging out around the corner from her were much more noteworthy sightings.
Yesterday, after my mom left, I watched "Kinsey" which was very entertaining albeit a bit disappointing. It felt too short and all the characters felt underdeveloped. That's probably the result of trying to cram a persons entire life into a two hour film. Had it been my life the film had been about, they could have just done a series of dissolves of me on a computer aging with each dissolve.
Oh yeah, for the first week in the new apartment, I was allergic to it! I'm doing much better now but I think all the dust that was a result of all the furniture being put together and all the boxes being thrown around really wreaked some havoc on my eyeballs. Being allergic to your own home is really sad.
I've also hit level 40 on World of Warcraft and have finally recieved my mount, if anybody cares... no? I didn't think so...
I'm going to go watch "A Woman is a Woman" now. A silly title if you ask me... I could've told you that.
I finished my last paper of the semester today but it doesn't feel as nice as it should because the stupid building my professor's box is in was closed when I went to turn it in! Now I have this completed paper just sitting there with the risk of me falling asleep, never waking up, and not turning it in.
After turning this paper in I just have a final on Tuesday which will be a breeze.
Wednesday is the big move. Yay. Unfortunately, our internet won't be up and running until Saturday. Once that's all set up and done I can relax.
For now I'm going to listen to OK Computer once through then go to bed. Goodnight.
