GONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
It's been awhile since I've written in here. Not so much because I've been busy (I haven't been any busier than I have been all summer) but just because I feel like there hasn't been much to write about. Even now there's not much to write about, I just feel like I should since it's been so long.
Work is going fine. I'm staying there even after school starts and will be getting a significant raise at that time as well. Thanks to work I'm also discovering many new cheap and delicious places to eat. Most notably, Dumpling House where you can get five of the best dumplings I've ever had for a buck and Nicky's Vietnamese Deli where they have really good Banh Mi sandwiches. Mmm.
Lee and I took an overnight trip to visit her cousin at Brown in Rhode Island. Providence is a pleasant town but a little too small for my tastes. I hated beaches but we went to one. I guess they're not so bad... I had fun.
I saw Werner Herzog's latest film "Grizzly Man" yesterday. It's probably one of my more favorite films of his. It's been awhile since a film has stuck in my head to the degree that this film did. A lot to mull over and digest. The character he chose to document is incredibly interesting and Werner makes some really interesting choices in the way he put the film together. I'd definitely like to see it again. It comes out this Friday so check it out if it's playing near you.
I recently also saw Herzog's "Land of Silence and Darkness" which is an incredibly beautiful film. The last shot of the film is really heartbreaking and can't be described to do it justice. You need to experience everything in the film leading up to that shot to fully understand the significance of the seemingly simple actions performed in the end. Super highly recommended.
Jean Luc Godard's "Tout Va B!en" is another great film that I saw awhile back.
"2046" is out, I really need to go see that.
Wondering what all the hoopla is about, I read the first Harry Potter book recently. I enjoyed it. Very entertaining. I was really disappointed in the first half of the last chapter though. I felt like the author didn't talk down to children and treat them like kids until the very end when she started explaining everything as if we were watching the last five minutes of a Scooby Doo episode. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the book a lot and am starting the second one now.
The song Gong off the upcoming Sigur Ros album Takk is quite good.
I've been listening to lots of Mountain Goats lately. I don't know if I've said that in an earlier post but I've been listening to them obsessively. I got tickets to see them in October. :)
Work tomorrow. Bedtime now.
