Cheetah!

Harold and Kumar Go To Whitecastle was actually pretty amusing... *Sigh*

Both of them!

Lots of movie watching this weekend from all areas of the film spectrum.

2046 - Highly anticipated sequel to In The Mood For Love. Ultimately just a beautiful mess of a film for Ziyi Zhang and the DP to show off in. More messy than beautiful, completely disappointing.

Flaming Creatures - Jack Smith's experimental, gay magnum opus shot on cheap or discarded film and showing every bit of its age in a disappointing print at Anthology Film Archives. I had wanted to see the film for a long time and was not let down. It's still technically banned in the United States so it was an adventure seeing it as well. Then again... nobody cares... except Strom Thurmann who was an outspoken critic of the film back in the 70s. He was probably rolling over in his grave repeatedly while myself and the rest of the audience were being scandalized by a brilliant-grainy sometimes and washed out others (but always to the point where you can hardly tell what's happening)-black and white pseudo-arabian orgy. Would like to see a better print sometime... was not disappointed. Terrible date movie though.

Sin City -  Never read the graphic novels but enjoyed the film thoroughly. By my count, Lee and I were able to guess six or seven key plot twists or lines of dialogue (word for word) but that didn't detract from the experience at all. In fact, it was kind of nice because everything went in the direction we guessed (and hoped) it would. The visuals were much less gimmicky than I thought they would be and the hard boiled writing was perfectly coupled with completely straight faced performances from all the actors. A visual feast! No... that's 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The Day After Tomorrow - Watched half of it on TV. Cheesy but enjoyable. Dennis Quaid is a stud.

First day of classes today.

Will write more later.
